Description: Commissioned by Beth Quarles, owner of Paper Hearts Bookstore, and supported by community funding, “Paper Hearts” is a unique hand-made woodcut print with collage honoring paper, bookmaking, story tellers, and those who read and listen to stories.
Based on a collection of submissions by bookshop visitors on what brings them joy, collected on little slips of paper in a pickle jar, I composed a narrative image illustrating the birth of the universe, paper making, writing, everyday life, protest, and peace.
